Blog from the Camp Director
Greetings from MHS Band Camp 2010
It has been a busy week here at Jackson’s Mill. Your kids are working hard and the show is shaping up to be a real barn burner. They have learned the show for Birdland and will finish Chameleon today. Weather permitting we will start working on the closer, MacArthur Park tomorrow.
It is HOT here in Jane Lew. We are reminding them to drink water, drink water, and drink more water. The chaperones are keeping busy filling water coolers, providing sunscreen, and keeping the kids on schedule.
Monday night ended with a crazy techno-glow-in-the-dark dance. Assembly Hall took on a Studio 54 atmosphere as we danced the night away.
They worked hard all day Tuesday, but instead of ending the day with the inaugural MHS Bandolympics as planned, we experienced severe thunderstorms that curtailed our activities. We had full band rehearsal to iron out some music issues and called it a night.
The kids are looking forward to tonight’s costume party after a long hot day on the field. Tomorrow night we will showcase our kids’ abilities with a talent show. Friday is all about our seniors as they say goodbye to their days at Jackson’s Mill. We owe a special debt of gratitude to the Rumble family, who has been a continuous presence in the MHS band since 1997, beginning with Jessi Rumble Morgan, followed by Wes, Kristin, and Grant. Their parents have been an integral part of our band family behind the scenes. The Rumbles have left their mark on the MHS band tradition and we are a better organization for it.
Frank Huy, one of our freshman chaperones, has posted pictures on his website. Parents are welcome to download pictures of the kids at http://gallery.me.com/shuy
Enjoy the rest of your week. We’ll see you Saturday morning at 11:15 am.
2010 Band Camp Activities
Monday will be Techno Neon Night. An energetic way of kicking off the week! Wear your bright neon colors, bring a few glowsticks, and dance the night away!
Tuesday night will be the first ever MHS Band Olympics. It’ll be section against section in a series of games ranging from Ultimate Frisbee to Tug of War to Human Knot. At the end of the evening the champion will be crowned. Will it be the alto saxophones, the M&Ms, or the ever popular drumline? May the best section win!
Wednesday night we will have a Costume Party. Come dressed as someone or something that isn’t you. Disney characters, celebrities, politicians, the possibilities are endless. During this night be sure to buy chances in our Dance with a Senior Raffle!
Our annual Band Talent Show will take place Thursday night. We are fortunate to have so many talented people in our band and this is the night for you to show off your talents! Please sign up in advance in the band room.
Last but not least we will have a Hawaiian themed pool party on Friday afternoon, a time for us to relax after a hard week’s work.
